2025 meetings
March 22- Mark Sands will present “Renovation & Repopulation, Bringing native orchids back." Mike is the owner of Tangled Roots Orchid nursery in Loxahatchee. He was involved in the replacement of over 3000 orchids in the renovation & repopulation of the Everglades destroyed by the Army Corp of Engineers. He specializes in bi-foliate cattleyas & will be bringing plants for us to buy & will also have decomposing pots & a fertilizer that he developed that has a built-in fungicide.
April 26- Ryan Kowalczyk will present a program on paphiopedilum & phragmipedium culture. He is an accredited AOS judge & has been growing orchids for 40 years. He specializes in growing Cattleyas, Catasetums & Paphs. He’s received 175 AOS awards on his orchids; most were quality awards. He’s also won 5 of the special yearly awards given internationally by the AOS. He’ll most certainly be able to teach us how to grow our Paphs & Phrags. He will be bringing plants for sale.
May 2 & 3 - Our annual orchid show & sale at St. Joan of Arc Church on Spring Hill Drive. See map below. More info to come.
May 24 - Annual potting workshop. Here's a chance to get expert help on repotting those orchids you bought at the show! Sonya and Allen from Garden Trails will be at the meeting selling potting supplies. Text Allen at 813-475-8863 beforehand with your special requests. More info to come.
June 28 - How to Build a Quality Orchid Collection by Jeff Adkins.
Jeff is a 3rd generation orchid grower. He worked with a commercial nursery in Miami for many years until it was closed after hurricane damage. He moved to Orlando & started Adkins Orchids & grows mostly “showy Cattleyas, Dendrobiums & Vandas". He’s been growing orchids for over 30 years & is a AOS judge.
July 26 - Jim Roberts is coming to talk to us about Encyclias, an easy & fun to grow group of orchids.
August 23 - Our annual orchid auction! Stay tuned for more information!
Sept. 27- Melana & Jim Davidson will teach us how to grow & bloom the Catasetum orchids. They own Jim-N-I orchids in Homestead where they grow Cattleyas, Bulbophyllums, Phalaenopsis & Dendrobiums. Between the 2 of them they have 30 years experience & both are accredited AOS judges. They will be bringing plants for us to buy.
Oct. 25 - Annual picnic at Crews Lake Park in Shady Hills area of Pasco County. More info to come.
Nov. 22 - Keith Emig of Winter Haven Orchids, will talk about Vandaceous Orchids other than Vandas. He will teach us about the unusual orchids in that genus; Aerides, Angraecoid, Neofinetia, Renanthetas & Rhynchostylis.
He will be bringing orchids to sell.
December- Our annual Holiday party.
