Obituary
Robert James "Jim" Duerstock, 81 of Spring Hill, a devoted husband and loving father passed away the morning of December 23, 2016 at Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville, FL.
Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, July 9, 1935, he was one of three siblings of Harry J. Duerstock and Mary P. (Tyner) Duerstock. After graduating from high school, Jim attended University of Indiana in Ft. Wayne while working and serving in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
Jim moved to Miami, Florida once in 1954 and again in 1957 with his parents, his brother Joe and sister, Joan. Next, he began a career in finance that took him from Miami to Birmingham, AL and eventually Tampa where he remained until his retirement.
Staying active, Jim turned his interest in horticulture into a business: Triffles Exotic Plants and Service, as well as founding the Fantasy African Violet Club and the Spring Hill Orchid Club, the latter of which he served as President. He also devoted many years to researching and documenting his family genealogy.
Jim enjoyed weekly golf outings with his friends, following his Indiana Hoosiers basketball and our local sports teams.
Jim was a loving husband and is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gertrude Louise "Trudy". He was also a proud father of two children from his first marriage: Julie Moroney (Jim) and Janis Spelman, both of Tampa. His marriage to Trudy brought four warm hearted children into the family; Gina Harbuck (Ron) of North Pole, AK, Judy Rice of Stockbridge, GA, Michael Duerstock (dec'd), and Joseph West (dec'd). In addition, he is survived and loved by a large extended family.
